The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday filed charge sheet against Indrani Mukherjee, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai, accusing them of abducting and killing her 23-year-old daughter Sheena Bora in April 2012.
According to the CBI, the three have been accused of abduction, murder, destruction of evidence, cheating and forgery. Some provisions of the Information Technology Act have also been invoked. “The charge sheet has been filed in a Mumbai court,” said a CBI official.
The move comes a couple of days after the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences submitting its findings on the examination conducted on the remains found in Raigad forests near Mumbai in August, confirming that they are of Sheena Bora and that she was apparently strangled.
In August, the CBI had taken over the case from the Mumbai Police that had arrested Ms. Mukherjee, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai in the case.
It is learnt that three separate tests were conducted on the remains. The first test of Ms. Mukherjee’s blood samples matched with the bones, from which protein extracts were obtained for the purpose, seized from Raigad forests.
The other tests were conducted to determine the age and height of the deceased. It is suspected that Sheena was strangled before her body being dumped in the forests.
