A day after four Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by Ludhiana police for their alleged connection with the gangrape of the West Bengal nun, the cops revealed that were carried out the operation dressed as auto driver and passengers. Posing as an auto-driver, the commissioner of police of Ludhiana Pramod Bhan and his team of four people, including senior officer Naveen Singla, arrested the four from Jodhabel slums based on information and photographs provided by the CID, Kolkata. A CID team from Kolkata has reached Ludhiana on Wednesday to interrogate the alleged accused and confirm whether they are the real suspects or not.
Talking about the operation with Mumbai Mirror, DCP Naveen Singla said, “We got the tip off and the photographs of the alleged accused from the Bengal CID two days ago. We have rounded up four people and the CID team from Kolkata will interrogate them all to ascertain their involvement.” The police conducted the operation on Tuesday after tracking the tower location of their mobile phones and doing a recce of the area. “We came to know from our sources that these people had they had been associated with criminal activities in the area as well,” he added. Singla also said, “The slum where they were staying is densely populated. Had we gone in our official attire, they would have fled after seeing us.” The police have also recovered weapons from them.
Their detention comes five days after two key accused Mohammed Salim Sheik and Gopal Sarkar were arrested by West Bengal Police in Mumbai and Delhi. “They are part of the same gang under which two key rape accused had been arrested. These four men have committed crimes of burglary, theft and defrauding people of foreign currency” said Ludhiana ADCP crime Mukhwinder Singh. Names of the four detained were confirmed as Salim, Habibul, Aslam Sohad and Jinnat.
