Girl held for killing teenage sisterPATNA: Patna Police have arrested a 21-year-old girl for allegedly slitting her teenage sister’s throat to “stop her from instigating parents to get her married”.

The killing took place in the house of Akhilesh Yadav at village Manohar Kachuara under Gopalpur police station area in Patna district on Sunday night. Neighbours found the door of the Yadavs’ house bolted from inside till late Monday morning. Suspecting foul play, some of them scaled through the wall and entered the house. They saw Alka, a Class XI student, lying in pool of blood.

Family members lodged an FIR, alleging unidentified people trespassed into the house during night and killed Alka. Alka’s parents, sister Priyanka and a brother were in the house at the time of incident. “We went to sleep after dinner and do not know who killed Alka and when,” Akhilesh, a post master, told police.

However, City SP (east) Sudheer Kumar Porika said the door of the house was locked till neighbours found out the crime. Police detained Alka’s sister Priyanka, a 2nd year student of College of Commerce at Patna, who was sleeping with her last night. During interrogation, the elder sister confessed to killing Alka with a knife while she was asleep. “Alka and I would often fight as she had been instigating our parents to get me married, but I wanted to study further,” police quoted Priyanka as having told them. She has been arrested.

Porika said family members were earlier concocting stories to save Priyanka. “As of now, no one else seems to be involved in the killing. But we are investigating the crime from different angles and trying to find out if Priyanka was having an affair,” Porika said.

SSP Jitender Rana appreciated Porika and DSP Sadar Ramakant for solving what was presented to be as a mysterious case. The bloodstained knife used in the crime has been recovered by police, Rana said.
