Banka: Enraged over a piece of land given to son-in-law for the services and care extended to an elderly couple, two sons of the couple, along with their wives, hacked them to death and the son-in-law also at Laxmania Taari village in Telia-Kumri panchayat under Belhar police station area late on Saturday night.
The deceased have been identified as Singheshwar Tanti (nearly 60), his wife Urmila Tanti (52) and their son-in-law Arvind Tanti (41).
Confirming the incident, Belhar police station SHO Anil Paswan said Tanti’s sons, Binod and Subodh, never took care of the elderly couple. When they fell ill, it was their daughter and son-in-law who took good care of them. In due course of time, the expenses made by Arvind on his ailing in-laws reached nearly Rs1 lakh, Paswan said.
Feeling gratified, Singheshwar Tanti gave possession of one bigha of land to his daughter and son-in-law, leading to dispute in the family. Infighting became almost a daily routine after that, source said.
On Saturday night also, the infighting continued for some hours. Later on, the two brothers, in inebriated condition, got so incensed that they brought an axe and hacked their parents and brother-in-law Arvind to death. Some other persons, who were also present, also got minor injuries in the incident. Both the brothers along with their wives fled from the village after committing the crime, police sources said.
Paswan further said that the place of occurrence was a remote place near the border of Banka and Jhajha, where only few people reside. The bodies recovered from the village field were sent for post mortem. A case has been lodged against Binod Tanti and Subodh Tanti and their wives on the statement of deceased Arvind Tanti’s wife, the SHO said. “We are conducting raids at the possible hideouts of the accused,” the SHO said, adding, “we are also trying to record statements of other village residents to know motive behind the crime,” the SHO said and added policemen have been deployed at the village.
