Robbers often target locked homes. However, on April 9, a robber broke into a house and attempted to loot in the presence of the occupants.
On Thursday, residents of a twostoreyed bungalow in Yamuna Nagar managed to nab him after a member was awakened when the accused was opening the door of a cupboard.
Sunil Roham, who owns the house, filed a complaint with the Nigdi police in this regard. The arrested was identified as Ganesh Sawalram Jadhav (26) of Ota Scheme at Nigdi. Cops said Jadhav is a criminal-on-record and had entered a private hospital in Rupee Nagar amonth ago.
API Madhukar Thorat of Nigdi PS said, “Some members of the family were sleeping in the upper floor, while Roham’s sister-in-law was in the ground floor. She woke up to see Jadhav opening the cupboard, after which she immediately raised an alarm. The whole family then came running down.” Meanwhile, Jadhav had already stolen a mobile phone and Rs 500. “When they tried to get hold of him, he managed to flee from the house. However, he was soon caught with the help of neighbours who had gathered by then,” Thorat added.
Cops said Jadhav was inebriated and tried to fight when he was caught. However, he was thrashed and handed over to cops. “He was arguing with the cops as well. We found that he has created a lot of nuisance in the past, including a case of molestation.”
The Rohams were fortunate to have escaped unhurt as robbers who enter houses with occupants inside tend to assault. In April 2010, at Karve Nagar, robbers had killed two elderly women before robbingthe house.
