Six at dhaba beat up MNC executive

NEW DELHI: An MNC executive and two of his friends who owned businesses in south Delhi were badly beaten up by a group of six men and women at a roadside dhaba near Qutub Institutional Area. The MNC executive is now in intensive care at a private hospital and his condition is said to be critical.

Avinash Som (27), who works at a Gurgaon-based firm, had gone for tea with two of his friends, Akhilesh Yadav (27) and Manik Kapoor (22), at Ram Babu Dhaba on Friday around 11pm. Yadav and Kapoor are businessmen. All three were allegedly beaten with steel rods and sticks by the group which accused them of ogling two of its women members.

“There were a group of six people including two women who were sitting on a bench at the dhaba. We were having tea and talking to each other when suddenly one of them came over and started abusing us in filthy language,” Akhilesh told police in his complaint.

When the trio objected, the man called his friends over. They again abused them and began a scuffle. “One of them restrained Avinash while another from the group took out a steel rod from his car and hit Avinash and Manik with it. They also hurled a big stone at Manik,” said Akhilesh in his complaint.

Avinash was hit on the head and fell unconscious. While all received injuries, his was the most serious.

Yadav and Kapoor rushed to the PCR van standing a few metres away from the spot and informed the personnel on duty. By the time they arrived, the group of six had fled. Avinash was rushed to a nearby private hospital and later taken to AIIMS Trauma Center.

His parents, who live in Meerut, were informed and he was taken to a private hospital there. According to Yadav, Avinash is in ICU and his condition is said to be critical. Police have registered an FIR under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 34 (common intention) at Vasant Kunj North police station and investigations are underway.
