Sleuths from Chatushrungi police station have nabbed two people, including a serial vehicle thief, who used to transport stolen bikes in a truck to Karnataka and sell them at throwaway prices there. The accused would bring cement bags in the truck and take back bikes to earn extra money.
The arrested have been identified as Sudheer Basanna Sutke (23) of Wakad and Mahantesh Basantram Gatragi (24) of Inglagi in Gulbarga district of Karnataka. A team laid a trap and caught the truck near Hotel Mahableshwar Chowk on Baner Road. PSI Chavan said, “We found 10 bikes hidden under empty cement bags. In order to earn easy money, they started stealing bikes and transporting them to Shedamgaon in Karnataka. They used to sell them for about Rs 10,000 and would assure their customers documents from the Maharashtra RTO.” SPI Arun Sawant, in charge of Chatushrungi police station, said, “We have seized 10 bikes and a truck, worth a total of Rs 23.3 lakh.
